Abstract

Sign Language Translator (SLT) is of great importance in helping speech impaired individuals to intercommunicate with rest of the world. Over the years many researches have attempted in designing a SLT based on many different approaches. This report presents findings of the preliminary research on Vision-based Sign Language Translator at Monash University Malaysia under the Internal Research Grant E-04-07. Also this report presents comprehensive literature review on SLT and proposed future direction of the research, which is suitable for a Ph.D. thesis.

About the Speaker

Mr Nuwan Gamage is our current 1st year HDR (MEngSc (research)) student under Dr Kuang Ye Chow’s supervision (formerly Dr Rini). He will be presenting his research work during this HDR seminar as a fulfillment of candidature conversion from MEngSc (research) to PhD.
