Purification of glycerin rich solution is common within oleochemical industry and nowadays biodiesel plant. Membrane filtration technology provides an alternative solution to traditional glycerin purification processes which require great amount of chemicals and energy. Fatty acid and palm oil are the main impurities in glycerin rich effluent, sweet water from hydrolysis plants. As there is no much works reported on the membrane purification of sweet water, it is essential to obtain a fundamental understanding of membrane technology in purification process.

About the Speaker

Mr Mah Shee Keat is a postgraduate student in the School of Engineering who commenced his Masters candidature since October, 2009. He is currently pursuing his Masters study in Membrane Technology in Glycerin Purification under supervision of Dr Chai Siang Piao who is the Research Strength’s leader of Chemical Sustainable Process Engineering (CSPE). This seminar is arranged as part of the fulfillment of Faculty’s requirements for candidature conversion from Masters to PhD.
