CHE4180 – Chemical Engineering Project

Synopsis

Develop and conduct of a specific research or other open-ended projects, which may involve literature search, experimental design, equipment design, equipment commissioning, experimentation, troubleshooting, problem solving, data gathering, analysis and interpretation of data, oral and written reporting.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to develop and conduct of a specific research or other open-ended projects, which may involve literature search, experimental design, equipment design, equipment commissioning, experimentation, troubleshooting, problem solving, data gathering, analysis and interpretation of data, oral and written reporting.

Assessment

1 semester long project work which consists of the following assessment components:

  • Attendance of seminars and workshops
  • Literature Review Report and Interview
  • Presentation
  • Final Report
  • Overall application

Contact hours

6 hours of lectures in a semester and 20 hours of laboratory work and private study devoted to research and report writing per week.

Introductory Remarks

Chemical Engineering students with a minimum of 120 credit points including CHE2161, CHE2162, CHE2163 and CHE2164 have to pre-register to the Final Year Project Coordinator, A/Prof. Chan Eng Seng at  Room 5-4-31, Tel: (+603) 5514 5821, Email: chan.eng.seng@monash.edu. A suitable project will be allocated before the semester break. Students should discuss their projects with their respective supervisors, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, received advice on literature review/ project planning, by the end of Semester 2. Seminars, workshop and assessment commence in Semester 1, subsequent year. Moodle is the official website for CHE4180 Chemical engineering project.
