Chemical engineering academic, Dr Patrick Tang Siah Ying, won the Young Chemical Engineer in Academia Award at the IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) Malaysia Awards 2014.

This award recognises the individual who best demonstrates the impact of their research in helping to address important economic, environmental or social issues.

His research focuses on the utilisation of highly energy efficient ultrasonic and hydrodynamic cavitation as green approach for the design and development of nanoformulations for pharmaceutical industries.

Monash University Malaysia was also presented with the Education and Training Award, for their public participation for sustainable growth.

This year, the IChemE Malaysia Awards were jointly organised by IChemE and Petronas to celebrate excellence, innovation and achievement in the oil, gas, water, food and pharmaceutical sectors.
